Spigot Inc Takes Team Building to the Next Level

Spigot Inc definitely knows how to throw a party… and let me tell you, we definitely “brought it” on our last team building celebration. From the moment we stepped on our American Airlines flight, it was quite obvious that we were all traveling together and ready to celebrate our incredible team.   The enthusiasm of what was to come was in the air, literally! Just as we were pulling into Dallas for our layover, the flight attendant made her typical announcements and then gave Spigot Inc a shout out (check out the video). Not that we needed anymore encouragement, this definitely was a crowd pleaser!

Our layover was incredibly short but seemed like an eternity. The Spigot Inc team was ready to continue the fun in Vegas. There were many first timers to Las Vegas and they definitely had an amazing experience as you will learn as the blog continues.

With a crowd as large as Spigot Inc, we had to split up occasionally. Quite a few of the team went straight from the airport to Top Golf for some fun. Golf Digest describes Top Golf the best. “It has 108 hitting bays, six flashing, multi-colored targets, four levels that cover 105,000 square feet, five fully-stocked bars, a plethora of large-screen TVs that are designed to showcase every significant sporting event (there are even TVs at the far end of the range, so you can hit balls while watching sports), two pools, and, well, you get the idea.”

The rest of the Spigot Inc team headed right to The Cosmopolitan. With a venue like this, why go anywhere else? “The Cosmo is the most original destination in the heart of The Las Vegas Strip. This unique luxury resort & casino is unlike any other. Enjoy residential-styled living spaces with private terraces and breathtaking views of the Las Vegas skyline. Dining is reinvented with a one-of-a-kind restaurant collection featuring world-class chefs making their Las Vegas debut. Stylish design and art engage cultural sensibilities while a vibrant nightlife scene captivates perceptions. Combine it all with an eclectic mix of hand-selected boutiques, an unrivaled Pool District, a 100,000 square-foot casino and the serenity of Sahra Spa & Hammam to redefine your luxury resort experience.” The Spigot Inc crew definitely enjoyed the accommodations.

Our big finale with the entire group was celebrated at the Marquee DayClub… and wow, was it a DARTY (day-party for those of you who don’t know)! “With a typical pool club layout, Marquee gives average club goers exactly what they crave — sun, fun and a DJ laying the beat. But the real appeal of Marquee are the cabanas with their own little infinite pools and hot tubs. (Don’t worry. They don’t have to be hot. This is Vegas after all.)   The whole cabana area is limited to cabana renters and gives an exclusive experience that you can’t get everywhere. This is the place to be at Marquee Dayclub. It’s the luxury you want in the privacy you deserve,” Vegas.com we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Of course we had to have this experience so Spigot Inc rented cabanas for the team. We were well taken care of by our VIP host, who made sure we were well fed, our thirst was quenched and the music stayed on point.   An amazing time was had by all of us at Spigot Inc. There was a lot of team building and bonds that grew stronger. Friendships that go beyond just the office… that’s what we build at Spigot Inc, not just amazing software.

Come join the fun. We are hiring like crazy. If you would like the opportunity to travel the world with us, visit our Spigot Inc career page or send us your resume for consideration. Check out all of our adventures on the Spigot Inc blog. The fun never ends at Spigot Inc. Make it RAIN with us!

Transparent Twitter

Spigot Inc learned just after the Honest Ads Act was released that Twitter plans to show who is behind political ads and why you are being targeted. They are the first large platform to adopt this policy.

“We are committed to stricter policies and transparency around Issues based ads,” according to a statement from Twitter’s ads policy team. “There is currently no clear industry definition for Issues-based ads but we will work with our peer companies, other industry leaders, policy makers and ad partners to clearly define them quickly and integrate them into the new approach mentioned above.”

Facebook Tests Splitting News Feed – Spigot Inc Shares: This is Only a Test

An article was published that Facebook has rolled out a test in six countries and are testing a division of its newsfeed into two separate feeds. On one feed, the test will show posts from friends and family. The second feed will show posts comprised from pages. This test, that was rolled out last Thursday has already hurt publishers and there are claims that brand pages have been seen four times less than before.

Spigot Inc would like to know if you would like a separate feed?

“A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the test in an email to Social Pro Daily, saying, “With all of the possible stories in each person’s feed, we always work to connect people with the posts they find most meaningful. People have told us that they want an easier way to see posts from friends and family, so we are testing two separate feeds. One as a dedicated space with posts from friends and family, and another is a dedicated space for posts from pages. To understand if people like these two different spaces, we will test a few things, such as how people engage with videos and other types of posts. These tests will start in Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Slovakia, Serbia, Guatemala and Cambodia. We have no current plans to roll this out globally.”

Spigot Inc Bowling Social

The fun never ends at Spigot Inc. We left the office a little early and had an afternoon of bowling, great food and drinks at HeadPinz in Fort Myers. They have state-of-the-art bowling on 24 lanes, 4 old time PinBoy lanes, giant GameZone, 2 story laser tag, aerial ropes course and Nemo’s Sports Bistro. HeadPinz is great for fun social bowling leagues, birthday parties, corporate outings and team building events. Although we spent the entire time bowling, we would like to go back and take advantage of some of the other amenities in the future.

The competition was strong for the Spigot Inc teams. We had no idea that some of our colleagues were such good bowlers. The Spigot Inc bowling competition is on… rematch coming soon!

A Major Foul for Advertisers on Sports Sites

Spigot Inc wants to warn sports advertisers that Forensiq has uncovered “a sophisticated bot that is taking over major sports sites and costing advertisers up to $250 Million.”

“A discovery from fraud company Forensiq claims advertisers are losing big money from a stealthy bot that’s using a new tactic to siphon millions of dollars away from sports websites including NFL team domains, ESPN and CBS Sports.

The firm’s technology uncovered the sports bot after tracking web traffic to all 32 NFL team sites for 90 days as well as bigger sports sites such as ESPN, CBS Sports and NBA and MLB properties, totaling 340 million impressions. Unlike more well-known tactics where fraudsters target so-called long-tail websites where content is never seen by consumers, Forensiq believes this bot is targeting premium content, essentially hijacking legitimate publishers’ online ad space through malware. Specifically, the bot is focused on video ad units, which typically have higher cost-per-thousand, or CPM, prices.

“This bot is injecting ads on the sites and then monetizing them through networks and other types of traffic sources so that the site is not losing any revenue from the bot but their name is being taken advantage of,” said Amit Joshi, director of data science at Forensiq.”

Pizza & Ping Pong at Spigot Inc

Today’s lunch at Spigot Inc was catered by Fine Folk Pizza… and let us tell ya, it was a lot better than fine! As soon as you take that first bite, you can tell these pizzas are made with passion. Fine Folk offers over thirty specialty pizza options as well as salads, and an artisan seafood menu with over ten sauce options. We had some of the traditional pizzas as well as a few that make you go HMMMM, where did they come up with that? Check out their menu and see for yourself.

Fine Folk Pizza is family owned and operated. They are located close to our Spigot Inc office in Fort Myers. Fine Folk Pizza is family friendly and have pizza acrobats on location. “Be sure to have your camera ready and bring the kids while you wait for your food to be prepared. One of our certified pizza acrobats will be out to entertain your family by teaching the little ones (or any one who wants to learn) to flip pizza dough like a pro. This is not your traditional pizza shop. This is Fine Folk Pizza.”

Spigot Inc recently upgraded the pool table so that we can now convert it and also play ping pong! After enjoying the pizza from Fine Folk, team members played a few matches on the ping pong table. Another successful catered lunch at Spigot Inc!

If you want to get in on the next catered lunch, review our Spigot Inc career page for more info. Check out what else is happening at Spigot Inc on our blog.

Publishers are Feeling a Bite Out of Revenue Since the Safari Update

Spigot Inc learned that Apple is cracking down on ad tracking through Safari in this article from DigiDay. Safari changes are affecting programmatic publishers due to audience targeting.

“Programmatic publishers’ ad rates have taken a hit since Apple updated its Safari browser last month to prevent third parties from tracking users for more than 24 hours after a user visited a website. Although Apple’s move hurts publishers reliant on third-party data that advertisers depend on to target niche audiences at scale, publishers that sell their inventory directly say they aren’t affected by the Safari update.”

“If publishers can make direct connections with their audiences, they can wean themselves off third-party trackers and mitigate the impact of Safari’s update, said an engineer at a business publisher requesting anonymity. But obtaining first-party data from users by getting them to sign up for a new product or fork over login information is a long-term project that might not deliver immediate results.”

Microsoft Acts Quickly on the WiFi Attack

Spigot Inc learned of a Wi-FI attack on Microsoft. Fortunately, Microsoft acted quickly and have already fixed the attacks vulnerability.

“Technology companies are starting to respond to a new Wi-Fi exploit affecting all modern Wi-Fi networks using WPA or WPA 2 encryption. The security vulnerabilities allow attackers to read Wi-Fi traffic between devices and wireless access points, and in some cases even modify it to inject malware into websites. Security researchers claim devices running macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux will be affected by the vulnerabilities.

Microsoft says it has already fixed the problem for customers running supported versions of Windows. “We have released a security update to address this issue,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. “Customers who apply the update, or have automatic updates enabled, will be protected. We continue to encourage customers to turn on automatic updates to help ensure they are protected.” Microsoft is planning to publish details of the update later today.”
