Zoom: Their Success Didn’t Just Stem from Covid, they Mastered the Art of Profitable Growth

Zoom has become an extremely popular tool over the last several months as we’ve all been practicing “social distancing.  Individuals went from having no idea what this tool was, to conducting happy hours, parties, school, dates, brunch & tons of work conferences on the daily. You may think that Zoom just got “lucky” with this pandemic, but the truth is – they have been climbing the ladder as a successful “start-up” for the past 9 years. Covid definitely brought more traffic and attention to their products, as there has been a much higher need for it, but they were killing it before this! Zoom creator, Eric Yuan, had the vision “video is the future of communications” – and it definitely looks like that future came much faster and more abruptly than he thought.

“From the start, Zoom aspired to stand out in a market of products that were probably more hated than loved. In a letter to shareholders included with its paperwork for going public a year ago, founder and CEO Eric Yuan talked about “how unhappy” people were with the videoconference tools on the market. But that was before the pandemic. Now video conferencing tools have gone from the punchline of a dry office joke to a vital social lifeline — and perhaps none more so than Zoom.” an article from CNN Business stated.

In recent weeks, Zoom has emerged as the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store, repeatedly breaking its download records. On Monday March 23, Zoom was downloaded 2.13 million times worldwide, up from 2.04 million the day before, according to app tracking firm Apptopia. Two months prior, the app had just under 56,000 global downloads in a day.

Another key metric in Zoom’s success is Yuan’s vision for company culture. His focus was to build a company culture around promoting “happiness. Very early on, we spoke about customer experience and culture; two things he really cared about,” said Quinn Li, senior vice president of Qualcomm Ventures, an early Zoom investor. “He would write back to any customer that would write to him, which is very rare for a company CEO to do.”

At Spigot, Inc. we all really love Zoom! We also appreciate a company with the drive to win, willingness to please users and a great company culture. This article really does show how much hard work pays off – especially for a small start up, they went from a small video conferencing tool, to going public and competing with Skype.

Spigot, Inc. is also rapidly growing! With more individuals at home, traffic to our products has increased – and we are STILL hiring! Send your resume to careers@spigot.com for review! Spigot, Inc. Virtual Trivia Happy Hour = Big Success

Update: Week 6 on lock down – Spigot, Inc. is still working from home! If you follow our blog, you know that we frequently have parties, hang out with one another outside of the office, travel together and participate in team building events. We’ve decided to keep that going, but virtually! So last week – Spigot, Inc. put together a Spigot, Inc. Virtual Happy Hour for all employees to attend! We had a total of around 30 employees and 5 teams participate in the event. It was hosted through Zoom by Trivia Mafia – and was a BLAST! Not only was it fun to see one another in a group setting again, we got to compete – and there were even prizes at stake!

Trivia Mafia did a great job organizing the game. They helped us set up teams by using a Zoom registration. Once the teams were set up, we were all sent a Google forms document to fill in our answers. The host of the show read all 5 questions for the round, and then sent us off into Zoom “break-out” rooms to discuss our answers. We were given 5 minutes to submit our answers and then the host pulled us all back into the same room to let us trash talk (lol) – and read us the next set of questions.

The game was VERY close, and the questions were challenging – but fun! We will definitely be doing this again, and participating in their private online hosted events!

Spigot, Inc. really loves investing in their people – and creating a team and “fun” environment is one way we accomplish that. As we are in quarantine, we are continually looking for ways to promote comradery. This definitely won’t be our last “virtual” team event! Stay tuned to see what other fun things we’re up to!

Spigot, Inc. is also STILL hiring! Send your resume to careers@spigot.com for review! Check out all of our adventures on the Spigot Inc blog. Be sure to follow us on LinkedInTwitter and Instagram… like us on Facebook and never miss out on the Spigot, Inc. lifestyle!

Spigot, Inc. Promotes Team Building – Even in Quarantine!

Prior to “social distancing” and “stay at home” orders – Spigot, Inc. had a lot of team building events! Most recently, we went to Dave n Busters as an entire company, we frequently spend a lot of time at WOB in Gulf Coast and have parties in our office. The Spigot, Inc. office has been closed now for 29 days, so what are we doing to stay connected?! Zoom Happy Hours & Games (obviously). Individual teams have been planning happy hours every week, just to catch up – talk quarantine, and just hang out. Friday, all of Spigot, Inc.’s employees got an invite to hop on a call at 2pm and a handful of people showed up! This coming Friday, Triva Mafia is hosting a Zoom Trivia contest for Spigot, Inc., and Spigot is providing prizes!

Last week, Spigot, Inc.’s sister company, Eightpoint Technologies, hosted a “Rock n Roll Bingo” Happy hour – and even had lunches delivered to everyone’s homes from a local Cayman Restaurant, Al la Kebab.

It’s really great to be a part of a “family” of companies that value employee happiness and promote collaboration no matter what. Not only do we offer a ton of fun outside of the workday, we also offer amazing benefits (100$ Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance paid, 401k Match, Unlimited Vacation Days & FREE LUNCH & Snacks).

Spigot, Inc. & Sister Company Employees are ALL Working From Home – Do We Like it or Hate it?!

Due to the Coronavirus Spigot, Inc. and our sister companies decided starting yesterday that the smartest approach would be to close our offices and have all employees work from home in “self isolation.” In general, Spigot, Inc. employees spend a great deal of time with one another in and outside of work – and working on each other’s computers collaborating, so we thought it would be best to shut down the offices. NO – we aren’t crazy, but we definitely don’t want to contribute to the medical facilities being overrun by sick patients like stated in this article and graph. Florida is slowly closing down all their public places, as of right now public school, bars and nightclubs are all on a mandatory close – so Spigot, Inc. employees staying home as much as possible is 70 less people to spread the virus!

The real question though is – do we like it or hate it?! Sure, working from home is nice – and I don’t think any of us have reached talking to a volley ball status yet BUT the consensus seems to be – we’d rather be in the office! When Spigot, Inc. employees were notified of the closure there were tons of complaints of not being able to collaborate and general boredom. Some Spigot, Inc. employees, however, have enjoyed their time home with their pets and swimming pools – as seen in the photos!

Spigot, Inc. employees are extremely fortunate to work for a company that is internet based and fully functional remotely. We are also fortunate that every enjoys coming into the office so much they were disappointed we were closing! If you want to work for a company where the employees are happy and values their employees health/well-being you’ve come to the right place! Send your resume to careers@spigot.com for review! Spigot, Inc. Wishes Megan Well!

Spigot, Inc. has an extremely unique culture in many different aspects – it’s part of our success and the main reason for our employee happiness and low turn-over. Hard work, dedication and risk taking really go along way here. One of our employees, Megan Wells is starting a new chapter of her life – and we all got to wish her well today! It is definitely a really cool story and a great example of the culture and mindset here at Spigot, Inc. so we thought we’d share!

Megan’s career at Spigot started when she was brought on as our admin to help with the day to day shenanigans. She graduated early from FGCU with an economics degree and had a desire to help out on the finance team. Megan took the initiative and sought a role on the finance team. Initially she lent a helping hand on some projects that the finance team had been working on and quickly proved her exemplary attention to detail and drive to learn (all while maintaining her other full time admin position).  In just 2 months Megan created a role for herself that didn’t even exist yet! In a very short time, she gained enough experience in the financial analyst realm to follow her dream of living in California and seek opportunities there. Her drive, passion, and fearless risk taking allotted her the opportunity to not only move to the team in which she desired, but help take her career to the next level.

We will miss Megan very much, but no matter what we know she is going to do great things!

If you want to be a part of a culture that really values their employees, has a ton of room for upward mobility and is just overall fun – Spigot, Inc. would love to talk to you!

Spigot, Inc. Takes Dave & Busters By Storm

Spigot, Inc. employees never pass up an opportunity to have a good time, and last night we all left work around 3:3o and headed over to the new Dave & Busters in Fort Myers. Dave & Busters didn’t even know what they were in for. This was definitely one of the most successful happy hours we’ve had yet! Almost every single Spigot, Inc. employee came to play. Spigot, Inc. got everyone 20$ play cards and got to enjoy tons of apps and drinks on us! Of course – most employees won a ton of prizes and Shakti EVEN hit the jackpot.

The Spigot, Inc. office is has grown rapidly over the past two years. We now have 70 employees sitting in the Fort Myers office, and there are days that go by where employees don’t even see one another due to our huge space. Happy hours like this are a great way to get everyone out of the office and mingling with employees from other teams that they don’t normally interact with on a daily basis. Spigot, Inc. also REALLY values employee happiness and this is another great way to show our appreciation to our employees and just give everyone a break from the work day to hang out.

If you want to be a part of a fun, competitive and lively organization – we’d love to speak with you! Send your resume to careers@spigot.com for review! Spigot, Inc. Mobile Team Goes to Romania: An Employee’s Story

As most of you probably already know – Spigot, Inc. is across the globe. We are owned by a company based out of Beijing, China, have several offices in the US and another office in Bucharest, Romania. Many Spigot, Inc. employees are fortunate enough to be able to travel to these locations for work purposes (and even extend their trips to see other parts of the world!). This past week our Mobile Team made the long 20 hour journey to work on their product with the Spigot, Inc. Romanian team. Spigot, Inc.’s, Elina Terentevya, documented the whole trip and gave us the run down below!

Elina:

I was fortunate enough to be one of the members of the mobile team to take a trip to Bucharest, Romania to work with our IOS team. While Spigot makes sure our communication is possible through all the technology provided, there is nothing better than meeting and working side by side. After a few take offs and landings, many movies on the plane, lots of laughs, and many many snacks, we were finally there!

As we landed we decided to go straight to the office to get started. The Ro team greeted us with open arms and most importantly donuts. I have tasted a lot of donuts in my life, but nothing compared to these. Papanasi, as they are called in Romania, were perfect round spheres, and

exactly what we needed for a quick pick me up before diving right in to work with the team. A perfect Romanian welcome in my opinion.

The evening followed by a team dinner at Grand Café Van Gogh. The café was so unique, with Van Gogh replicas hanging all across the wall painted by local artists, funky umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, and nachos that were out of this world.

I honestly don’t even know where to begin about the food. It never stopped, and each place was better than the last. The bread, the wine, the humus, the baba ganoush, the kabobs, the shawarmas, all the meats, and my personal favorite mamaliga. Everything tasted even better than it looked, if that’s even possible!

Another night we went to a traditional Romanian restaurant, called Hanu’ lui Manuc, we ate, we drank, and we fully embraced the Romanian culture. 2 meters of beer, authentic Romanian food, endless donuts, Moldavian dancers, the Eastern European culture is just something else.

We were also lucky enough, some may not agree with me, to see a fresh snow fall. The snow just kept falling transforming this unique city of Bucharest in to a winter wonderland. Snow balls were made and exchanged.

Working at Spigot, Inc. gives employees an amazing opportunity to experience different cultures, whether it’s in our own office or travelling abroad.
