Spigot, Inc. Judges FGCU Entrepreneurial Contest Virtually!

Six Spigot, Inc. employees got the awesome opportunity a few weeks ago to judge the FGCU Entrepreneurial contest. Typically, this contest is held in the Emergent Technology Institute Building in a Shark Tank format – but due to Covid, students pre-recorded their pitches and sent them to us virtually. Although we did miss being in the classroom and meeting the students face to face – we still had fun!

FGCU has an amazing program for young adults with a passion and drive to be an Entrepreneur called, The Runway Program. According to their website, The FGCU Runway Program is a free business incubator open to students and alumni that are accepted into the program. Currently located off campus at the FGCU Emergent Technologies Institute Building, participants have access to two 1,300 ft2 shared work spaces, computers, cameras, audio equipment, design and development software, and regular mentoring fromt heir expert faculty, staff, and community startup coaches.

Participants are required to regularly meet with assigned Runway Program Advisers to receive feedback on ideas and progress, in addition to setting goals towards launching their venture. The Runway Program follows the Lean Start-Up methodology. Participants identify and validate the existence of a problem or opportunity, and then develop solutions and a plan that they can test on real people. At the end of the 16-week program, student participants have the opportunity to pitch for equity-free seed funding to launch their businesses.

Spigot, Inc.’s involvement with FGCU, specifically the Entrepreneurial college has been extremely beneficial for both our business and their students. 1/4 of Spigot, Inc. employees are FGCU Alumni and we are looking forward to judging more contests and continuing to hire students!

Spigot Inc Fort Myers Hosted Students Majoring in Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship at FGCU

Ryan Stephens, President of Spigot, Inc hosted students from Florida Gulf Coast University today at our Fort Myers office. These aspiring entrepreneurs, who are currently enrolled in the class ‘launching your own business’ at FGCU had an engaging conversation, tour of the office and a glimmer in their eyes.

The Lutgert College of Business launched the program in 2014 and quietly opened its entrepreneurship program to all students at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. “Beginning Fall 2017, students in ANY college can declare an interdisciplinary major in Entrepreneurship.

FGCU is the only school in the state university system offering a full entrepreneurship degree, featuring eight entrepreneurship courses. As a non-business major, the proposed program will be centered on establishing partnerships with other departments throughout the university to promote campus-wide entrepreneurship.”

Spigot, Inc stays involved with FGCU Career Development Services, as they are a huge benefit for students who are preparing to launch their career. Ryan Stephens has spoken to numerous classes at the college. Spigot, Inc also participates in career fairs hosted by FGCU, meeting students who are eager to become interns that later could grow into a full time position.
